Pedro Barateiro was born in Almada, in 1979. Lives and works in Lisbon. Finished his Master Degree at Malmö Art Academy (Malmö, Sweden), with a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2005-06). Attended the Advanced Course of Maumaus - School of Visual Arts, Lisbon (2002-04) and ESAD, Caldas da Rainha, where he finished his University Degree.
Participated in artistic residencies at ISCP-International Studio and Curatorial Program in New York (2007-08), 'Sítio das Artes', Platform 2 of the Cultural Forum 'The State of the World', CAM -Centre of Modern Art/Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (2007), Spike Island, Bristol, England (scholarship of the UK Branch of Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation) (2005) and Galeria Zé dos Bois, Lisboa (2002-04).
From his recent solo exhibitions, particular attention to the work Composição/Composition, Galeria Pedro Cera, Lisbon (2007), Travelogue, at Gallery Peep - Malmö Art Academy, Malmö, Sweden (2006); What Are We Doing Here? at Spike Island Artspace in Bristol, England (2005) and This is the place to be standing/Este é o lugar para se estar de pé, Salão Olímpico, Porto (January, 2005).
Among group exhibitions where he participated, emphasis to Por Entre as Linhas, Museu das Comunicações, Lisbon (2007), Projecto Morro, Projecto 270, Costa da Caparica (2007), 2006 Busan Biennale, Busan Museum of Modern Art, Busan, South Corea (2006); Arquivar Tormentas, CGAC, Santiago de Compostela, Spain (2006), O Um e os Outros, Casa das Artes de Tavira (2004); Pedro Barateiro e Sílvia Moreira, Bartolomeu5, Lisboa (2004); EDP New Artists Award, Serralves Museum, Porto (2003); Video Exchange/ Permuta de Vídeo, Rosenberg Gallery & The Commons, New York University, New York (2002) and Gallery 30 Dias, Caldas da Rainha (2001).
His work is published in catalogues and represented in several public and private collections.
